EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt has been a familiar face on British TV for over four decades, but away from Albert Square his life has included a divorce, living in a motorhome, and acting alongside his son.
The 58-year-old actor has played Ian Beale since the soap launched in February 1985, making him one of its longest-serving cast members.
Marriage Ended After 22 Years
Adam married Beverley Sharp at Disney World in Florida in 1998, and they have two children, Jessica and Samuel. The couple separated in August 2019, though the news was not made public until August 2020. A BBC spokesperson said: "Beverley and Adam separated in August 2019, and we ask that the family's privacy is respected."
Both confirmed there was no third-party involvement. The divorce was reportedly finalised in 2022 after a settlement. Adam has not publicly entered another relationship since.
Living in a Motorhome
After the split, Adam bought a £93,000 motorhome. Originally purchased for a theatre tour, the vehicle became his permanent home. Speaking to Dublin FM's Big Breakfast in 2022, he said: "I've not just purchased it, I live in it."
When asked how he found the lifestyle, he joked: "It's usually where I left it parked." He added: "I love it, it wouldn't suit everyone, but where I am in my life at the moment, it's perfect for me. I've got all my stuff for cooking, I've got my house on wheels."
Son Appeared Alongside Him in EastEnders
Adam's son Samuel made a surprise appearance in EastEnders in 2020, playing a police officer who arrested Ian Beale outside The Queen Vic. The casting helped comply with strict COVID filming rules, allowing father and son to share physical contact without social distancing.
Samuel had previously recovered from a serious car accident in 2016. Months later, he ran the London Marathon with Adam, raising £6,500 for the London Air Ambulance. In 2025, he took on a role in the film Sriracha.
