Former Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt has claimed that his alcoholic father stole the fortune he earned from his early television success. The 47-year-old actor, who rose to fame in the late 1990s playing Nick Tilsley on the ITV soap, spoke about the strained relationship with his late father during an appearance on Vanessa Feltz's television show.
Rickitt said that much of the money he earned at the height of his career never stayed in his bank account. He explained: 'If you Google Adam Rickitt net worth, it comes up with a figure, it's not that figure because my dad stole all my money. And he did it three times.' He added that even though he was 18 and earning from Coronation Street and his pop music career, the money kept going to his father, who lost it.
The actor revealed that his father was a successful merchant banker earning millions of pounds a year, but struggled with alcohol. Rickitt said he kept lending his father money, which he wasted on friends rather than repaying him or spending on the family. This led to a 15-year estrangement, and they only reconnected when his father went from earning millions to living on a state pension and having his home repossessed.
Rickitt confirmed that his father is no longer alive and described their relationship as 'healed' but not 'repaired'. He said he eventually understood that his father's actions were not driven by hatred but by his own demons, comparing him to a 'petrified little boy'. The revelations come as Rickitt prepares to return to music, more than two decades after his brief pop career, having signed a new record deal.
