Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty married Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, on December 27 at Bath Abbey. However, the fairy-tale wedding has been overshadowed by reports that Peaty excluded most of his family from the event, leaving his mother Caroline 'broken'.
Only Peaty's sister Bethany was invited, serving as a bridesmaid alongside Holly's sisters. Father Mark was reportedly told he could attend the service but not the reception, and declined. Family members, including aunt Louise, sent harsh messages to the couple. Louise texted Peaty: 'I hope you never suffer the depth of pain you have put your mother through… her soul screams.'
An upside-down Union Jack was seen outside the family home in Staffordshire, a traditional symbol of distress. In the weeks prior, Caroline had planned to crash the wedding but was persuaded not to by her husband.
Peaty's ex-partner Eiri, mother of his five-year-old son, reportedly criticised his decision to adopt the double-barrelled surname Peaty-Ramsay. A friend said Eiri found it 'a bit rich' given he did not allow her the same right for their son, though she praised him as a father and stepmother Holly.
A family source described the situation as 'disgusting', and Peaty's estranged brother James also posted a strong message online after the wedding.
