Veteran actor John Woodvine, known for roles in The Crown and An American Werewolf in London, has died aged 96. His agent, Phil Belfield, announced that Woodvine passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning.
Woodvine enjoyed a prolific career spanning stage and screen. He performed in over 70 stage productions, including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Old Vic, and the National Theatre. He won the Olivier Award for Comedy Performance of the Year in 1987 for his role in The Henrys at the Old Vic.
His television credits included Z Cars, Shameless, Coronation Street, Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders, and Emmerdale. He also appeared in films such as Young Winston, Dragonworld, Persuasion, and most recently Enys Men.
Woodvine is survived by his wife, actress Lynn Farleigh, and their two children, Mary and Emma. Tributes have been paid by colleagues, with Belfield stating: 'We are all the richer to have known him.'
