Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller, 60, has faced criticism from fans after sharing a heavily filtered video on social media. The clip, which shows her using a walker and boarding a plane to Iowa, drew attention for its apparent use of a smoothing filter on her face.
“Abby girl I love you, but this FaceTune is insane,” one follower commented. Another added: “Abby we know what you look like. You’ve been on tv for over a decade.” The video was captioned with details of her teaching event in Des Moines.
Miller is not alone in facing such scrutiny. In November 2024, Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid were criticised after a photo from a Broadway date night appeared edited. Fans noted distorted features and overly smooth skin, with one asking: “Is that AI Bradley?”
In 2021, Britney Spears admitted to using Facetune to make herself look bigger in photos, saying she had “videos and pics from the summer I never used because well I’m bigger.” She acknowledged it “sounds shallow as hell” but felt fans would react strongly to unedited images.
Khloe Kardashian has also been caught in editing controversies. A behind-the-scenes moment from The Kardashians showed a heavily airbrushed perfume ad, prompting Reddit users to note it “doesn't even look like her.” Khloe has previously defended her use of apps, telling People in 2018: “I love FaceTune… and a filter. That's like airbrushing.”
