Abbey Clancy has revealed that her eldest daughter 'almost got arrested' by US immigration officials during a family trip to New York, leaving the former model in tears.
Conversation mix-up at immigration
Speaking on the Therapy Crouch podcast, which she co-hosts with her husband Peter Crouch, Abbey explained that the incident occurred when the family went through immigration control at a New York airport. Abbey, 40, and Peter, 45, have four children: Sophia Ruby, 15, Liberty Rose, 10, Johnny, seven, and Jack, six.
Abbey said: 'We landed. Then Sophia nearly got arrested at the airport. We're landing in New York, it's different to the UK, it's kind of security heavy. Strict. Those immigration officers are not fun. You cannot crack a joke with them.'
She explained that because Sophia had renewed her passport since her last visit to the US, she had to provide fingerprints. Sophia then asked: 'Why do I have to do fingerprints? Oh yeah, is that in case there's like fingerprints on the gun?'
The immigration officer responded: 'Sorry, sorry, miss. What did you say? What fingerprints on the gun?' Sophia clarified: 'No, I mean like there's guns here and you could have like my fingerprint.'
Officer's reaction and tears at the airport
Imitating the officer, Abbey said they asked: 'What? Your fingerprints are on a gun?' Abbey quickly intervened: 'No, my daughter's not saying her fingerprints are on a gun, she's saying, “Is this how you get catch criminals if their fingerprints are on a gun?”'
After a long wait to get through immigration, the family was left stranded when their driver left because they were taking too long. Abbey said: 'We were in the queue for like an hour and a half and it was late, the kids had been up early… So we got our bags and then the driver had left us because we were taking too long. So I just burst into tears at that point… because we had everything we owned from Portugal. And then the driver left us and then England lost.'
World Cup final and upcoming show
Abbey and Peter also attended the World Cup final, where Spain beat Argentina. Peter worked as a pundit while Abbey watched from the stands with their family. On Instagram, Abbey posted: 'Well that was special. World Cup final congratulations to Spain.' She also shared photos of her children sightseeing in New York.
Abbey is set to appear in 'Abbey Clancy: Celebrity Homes' airing at 7.30pm on ITV1 on Friday, July 24.
