Egg freezing journey and motherhood plans
Douglas, who presented A Place in the Sun from 2015 until 2022 and appeared on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022, has previously spoken openly about freezing her eggs. She now hosts Can't Sell, Must Sell and Worst House on the Street.
During an appearance on ITV's Lorraine, she told guest host Christine Lampard: "I never thought I'd be 37 with no man, no husband, and no baby." She added: "Being a career-driven woman is fantastic but I do want to have a family so I have to take my future into my own hands and prepare myself for having kids at a later date."
She also described the egg-freezing process as overwhelming, saying: "I wasn't prepared at all, if I'm honest. I had looked into it but until you actually get there and you get given all of the medication." She added: "That moment for me was so overwhelming because I realised I'd have to be injecting myself every day to get to a point where my eggs are healthy enough to take out."
Timing and future-proofing
Speaking at the Ideal Home Show, Douglas explained why she felt the timing was right: "I have no more excuses. I have to get it done and future-proof as much as possible. I didn't realise that at 35, not only do our eggs diminish in terms of how many we have, but the quality of them too."
Douglas recently attended The Baby Show in London, and the couple's announcement marks the start of their journey to parenthood together.
