Buyers on Channel 4's A Place in the Sun have shared the heartbreaking reason behind their desire to move to Spain. Hampshire couple Taz and Mark were looking for a holiday home on Spain's Costa del Sol in a repeat episode airing on Wednesday, July 29.
With the help of host Leah Charles-King, they were searching for their dream property near Casares and La Duquesa, with a budget of £250,000.
Meeting and early romance
The couple, who had been married for 18 months when the episode first aired in 2023, met through Taz's work. Mark said they had chemistry straight away, and he asked her out on the same day. Taz added, “He came in for an interview, I offered him the job and then he chatted me up.” Mark continued, “Romance started from day one.”
Fresh start after loss
Introducing the guests, Leah said: “Since meeting at work five years ago, Taz and Mark have holidayed in Spain plenty of times. After a few tough years, they've now decided it's time for a fresh start where they can find a beautiful holiday home in southern Spain that could one day become their permanent home.”
The house-hunters wanted a holiday home to enjoy with Mark's two sons and Taz's daughter, located within walking distance of the beach and surrounded by pretty views. They told Leah it was their dream and that they always seemed to come back to the same spot. Taz added: “It's the right time, we've lost parents recently. Life's too short, why wait any longer?” Leah responded, “I'm sorry to hear that.”
Emotional ending
After finding the couple their dream home, the episode ended in tears, with Mark admitting he was “emotional”. Leah said: “This has meant so much for you, the family, your whole new chapter. I'm so happy for the two of you. We're all welling up here! I'm so happy for you both, you deserve this.”
She added to camera: “That was definitely an emotional ending to an awesome property search. Taz and Mark found the holiday home of their dreams that will one day become their permanent place, and I wish them many years of happiness here.”
A Place in the Sun is available to watch on Channel 4.
