L7 Confirms Jennifer Finch's Death
Jennifer Finch, the iconic bassist for the 90s rock band L7, has died at the age of 57 after a long battle with brain cancer. The band announced her passing on Instagram on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in an emotional post that read: "With a very heavy heart, we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today. She had a long, courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide. We love you, Jennifer."
The band's representative also issued a statement, saying: "We are shattered by the loss of our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch, whose fierce spirit, humour and boundless creativity helped shape L7 and changed all of our lives forever." The statement added: "Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured."
Fans React to the Tragic News
Devastated fans flooded social media with tributes. One wrote: "I'm so heartbroken, this is a huge loss. My deepest condolences to her family, friends and bandmates. Thank you for everything, Jennifer. You'll never be forgotten; fans over the entire world will love you eternally." Another said: "Absolutely heartbreaking. I am so, so sorry. Cancer Diagnosis and GoFundMe Campaign
Finch's death comes just five days after L7 revealed that a GoFundMe page had been created to support her following a brain cancer diagnosis. The band stated that an "unforeseen complication" required her to "undergo multiple surgeries that have resulted in physical limitations," and that she would be unable to join the group on the North American leg of their Last Hurrah Farewell tour scheduled for later in 2026.
Finch's Legacy with L7
Finch joined L7 in 1986, two years after the band formed in Los Angeles, and became one of its most recognisable members. She played a key role during the band's rise in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In addition to bass, Finch contributed as a songwriter and photographer. She performed on several of L7's most notable releases, including L7, Smell the Magic, Bricks Are Heavy, Hungry for Stink, and the reunion-era album Scatter the Rats.
Finch left the band in 1996 but returned when L7 reunited in 2014. Since then, she remained part of the band's core lineup alongside Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner and Dee Plakas.
