80s Pop Group T'Pau Announces Comeback Tour 37 Years After Biggest Hit

80s pop icons T'pau are making a major comeback with a series of UK concert dates, kicking off this summer. The band, formed in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and fronted by singer Carol Decker, recently headlined the Hazlemere fringe festival, prompting the announcement of a full tour.

The tour will begin in Northern Ireland later this year, before moving to select cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Cornwall, and Brighton, with a performance also scheduled at London's Wembley Arena. The band, best known for their 1987 number one hit 'China in Your Hand', originally formed in 1986 and took their name from a Vulcan elder in Star Trek.

Their debut album 'Bridge of Spies' sold over 1.2 million copies in the UK and went quadruple platinum. Despite disbanding in 1991, frontwoman Carol Decker, now 66, has kept the band alive with various line-ups and tours, including a 28-date UK tour in 2013 to mark the 25th anniversary of the band's formation.

In 2015, following the release of T'pau's fifth studio album, the final eight shows of their tour were cancelled after Carol suffered damage to her voice. She later expressed frustration that new material wasn't receiving the same airplay as their old hits, saying, 'It's a little harder to get on the radio because all the 80s stations play the 80s stuff and they won't play your new stuff.'

Carol has remained active in showbiz, making TV appearances and a cameo in the comedy series Benidorm in 2018. She published her autobiography 'Heart And Soul' in 2022. Former members of T'pau include Tim Burgess, Michael Chetwood, and Paul Jackson, among others.
