True crime documentary series 24 Hours in Police Custody will return with brand new episodes, Channel 4 has confirmed. The landmark documentary series has been a hit with fans since it first aired on Channel 4 in 2014. Following a local police force, viewers are plunged into a real-life investigation as detectives search for justice. Following major crimes in real time, detectives are often seen uncovering horrific truths as the series follows a case from the moment a 999 call is made right through to conviction.
Channel 4 teases new episodes
After calls for brand new episodes to be released, it appears Channel 4 has answered as they have been teasing viewers with brand new releases the past week. Last week, the Channel 4 Documentaries Facebook page shared two cryptic posts that implied new episodes were coming. In one of them, they declared that they had a "busy week ahead". Sharing an image of their to-do list, one of those options was to "leak details of new 24 Hours in Police Custody", and they certainly delivered.
The page has issued a brand new update, confirming the name of the new episodes. They wrote on Facebook: "Anyone lost a notebook?", alongside a picture of a notebook with a sticky note attached. On the sticky note, it read: "24 Hours in Police Custody title 'The Ambush' 2-parter. Air date???"
Fans demand release date
This means viewers are definitely getting new instalments, or at least a two-parter, but an official release date has yet to be announced. According to the TV guide, nothing has been listed for the next week, but given new episodes are typically released on a Monday evening, viewers could be waiting until September. Since the cryptic posts began, many fans have been demanding a release date to be announced as one person commented: "When does it comes out." Another replied: "How's that list going?" A third added: "New 24 Hours???? Looking forward to seeing it!" Another penned: "Tell me when! Obsessed haha", as one person echoed: "I need the details!!"
Earlier episodes and streaming
Earlier this year, new episodes were released, each exploring a different and equally horrific case, often leaving viewers feeling "sick" and "disgusted". However, the series soon came to an end as repeat episodes were broadcast, leaving viewers wanting more. 24 Hours in Police Custody fans are sure to be waiting on tenterhooks for official news to be released. In the meantime, old episodes can be streamed on Channel 4 online.
