1937 Film Shows Woman 'Using Mobile Phone' Sparks Time Travel Claims
1937 Film Sparks Time Travel Claims Over Woman's Phone

A photograph from 1937 has reignited conspiracy theories about time travel after a woman appears to be holding a device to her ear, resembling a modern mobile phone. The footage, originally posted on a conspiracy theory site, shows a group of women descending a staircase. One woman, wearing a black head wrap and a short-sleeved dress distinct from the others' white headscarves, is seen holding an object to her right ear and speaking, pausing as if listening to a caller.

The first handheld mobile phone was invented in the 1980s, nearly 50 years after the footage was taken. This anachronism has led some to claim the woman is a time traveler. One theorist stated: "There is no question that she is speaking as she descends the stairs while holding a small object next to her ear. We can only wonder who is she speaking to and what exactly is she speaking in!"

Similar Anomalies in Historical Footage

This is not the only instance of apparent anachronisms in old films. A 1938 film shows a woman among a crowd holding what appears to be a phone to her ear. A YouTuber later claimed the woman was her grandmother, using an experimental wireless telephone. Additionally, a 1940s beach photo shows a man in a brown suit looking at a device, nicknamed the "texting time traveler" by social media users.

While skeptics suggest the object could be a hearing aid or a similar device, the images continue to captivate believers in time travel, who see them as potential evidence of visitors from the future.
