Guy Ritchie's Amazon Prime series Young Sherlock is set to return for a second series, but several major stars from the first season will not be back. The show, which follows a young Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and his future nemesis James Moriarty (Dónal Finn), was a hit, drawing 45 million viewers in under a month and earning an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
New and Returning Cast
According to Deadline, new series regulars for season two include Olivia Williams (Dune: Prophecy), Sophie Skelton (Outlander), Indira Varma (The Night Manager), and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones). Returning cast members include Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, Natascha McElhone as Cordelia, Max Irons as Mycroft, and Holly Cattle as Beatrice.
Departures
Joseph Fiennes will not reprise his role as Silas Holmes, as his character was presumed dead after leaping from a cliff. Colin Firth also departs following the death of his character Bucephalus Hodge in series one. Zine Tseng, who played Xiao Wei/Princess Gulun Shou-an, will not appear in the second series, despite hints of a possible return. Numan Acar will likewise not return as Esad Kasgarli.
Renewal and Reaction
When the renewal was announced, Amazon MGM Studios' Head of Global TV, Peter Friedlander, said: "Young Sherlock has that rare magic—millions of fans around the world aren't just watching a detective story, they're falling in love with the origin of an icon.
