Gavin And Stacey star Ruth Jones and TV presenter Richard Osman are among the nominees for this year's British Book Awards. Jones, 59, has been nominated for author of the year alongside American writer Freida McFadden, known for her best-selling novel The Housemaid.
Jones is also nominated for book of the year in the audiobook non-fiction category for When Gavin Met Stacey And Everything In Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship, which she co-wrote and co-narrated with James Corden. The memoir explores the origins of the hit BBC sitcom, its success, and its record-breaking Christmas special.
McFadden has received a nod in the crime and thriller category for her psychological thriller The Tenant, where she faces competition from Osman for his novel The Impossible Fortune, part of his Thursday Murder Club series. Other author of the year nominees include Mick Herron, Charlie Mackesy, AF Steadman, and Elif Shafak.
The non-fiction narrative shortlist features Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography Last Rites and Virginia Giuffre's memoir Nobody's Girl: A Memoir Of Surviving Abuse And Fighting For Justice. Suzanne Collins has been nominated in the children's fiction category for Sunrise On The Reaping, a prequel to The Hunger Games series.
Additional nominees include Jamie Oliver for Eat Yourself Healthy, Joe Wicks for Protein In 15, and Bob Mortimer for The Long Shoe in the audiobook fiction category. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Grosvenor House London on May 11.
