Households across the UK are being urged to check their wallets for a rare £5 note that could be worth a staggering £50,000. The note features a micro-engraved portrait of Harry Kane, created to celebrate the England striker winning the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup.
Six special notes created
Artist Graham Short etched Kane's portrait onto the clear part of six £5 notes using a needle. Each note took six days to complete. Two notes were gifted: one to the Football Association and another to Kane himself. The remaining four were spent into circulation across each country in the UK – in Edinburgh, Merthyr Tydfil, Meriden, and Northern Ireland.
Serial numbers to look for
The notes are not in a consecutive run. Collectors should watch for these serial numbers: AC04 487157, ACO4 619245, AC06 244707, AL52 603019, AM33 305187, BA26 831255. Each note is insured for up to £50,000 and could sell for that price or more at auction. So far, none have been sold or claimed.
