A couple renovating their 1920s home in Yorkshire made a stunning discovery on the first day of their project: original terrazzo flooring hidden under grimy carpet. Kim Barker and her partner, who are undertaking a long renovation of their "neglected 1920s forever home," pulled up the carpet to reveal the speckled, hard-wearing surface.

Kim, 39, shared the find on Instagram, writing: "Our first lucky find. Underneath the most disgusting carpet you’ll ever see, we have discovered the original terrazzo flooring. She needs a bit of love, but it was a big win on day one!" The post garnered 2,800 likes and comments from fans calling the discovery "amazing" and "absolutely beautiful."

Terrazzo is a durable flooring material made by embedding chips of stone—such as marble, granite, or glass—into a binder, then grinding and polishing it smooth. A Boost for the Renovation
Kim told Newsweek: "There is an overwhelming amount of work to do in the house, so discovering this was such a bonus and a real boost on day one." She plans to restore the floor and make it the main feature of the hallway, with all furniture and decor designed around it. She added: "The floor will become the main feature of the hallway, and all furniture, styling, decor, etc., will be designed around it. We are a bit of a way off from this, but I already can’t wait for the fun bit."
