Emotional tributes have been paid to a 16-year-old girl described as “forever 16” after a body was found in woodland in Stenhousemuir, Scotland. The family of Jasmine Ferguson, who had been reported missing from the town two days earlier, has been informed of the discovery.
Body found near McLachlan Street
Emergency services were called to a wooded area close to McLachlan Street in Stenhousemuir on Thursday, September 3. Police received a report of the discovery at approximately 4.15pm. While formal identification is yet to be carried out, officers confirmed that Jasmine’s family had been informed.
Jasmine was last spotted at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, September 1, in the town’s Lamond View. It is understood that officers do not consider the death to be suspicious.
Community tributes
Residents have been left heartbroken by the discovery, with social media flooded with tributes from friends and family. Addressing Jasmine’s parents, Lexi and Darren, Daryll Courtney said: “I've absolutely no words! You know I love you and I'm always here! I can't believe I'm saying this, sleep tight ma wee pal.”
Shelly Sharp Gilmour wrote: “Fly high Jasmine! Thoughts are with Lexi, Darren and the rest of the family.” Michaela Lindsay continued: “I'm thinking of you all at this sad time. Sleep tight, Jasmine. Forever 16.”
Lindsey Kirkwood said: “RIP beautiful angel. My thoughts are with Darren, Lexi and family at this sad time.” Claire Dunnachie added: “Fly high sweetheart. Thoughts to Darren, Lexi and all her family and friends.”
Fundraiser set up
A GoFundMe appeal has been set up following Jasmine’s death to assist with unforeseen expenses facing the family. It has collected more than £2,000 in just 10 hours. A statement on the fundraiser read: “We're looking to raise funds to offer support and comfort to the family of Jasmine Ferguson after her heartbreaking passing. This has been set up by family friends.”
The appeal was shared by Jasmine’s mother, Lexi Ferguson. The comments section was filled with mourners providing comfort to the mum. Jasmine’s sister, Lulu Ferguson, said: “Love you, mum.” Teigan Dooley added: “I'm sending so much love to you and your family. Be strong.”
A report is to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
