Channel 4's thriller 'Tip Toe' has left viewers traumatised after its final episode aired, culminating in a brutal act of violence that had been hinted at throughout the series. The show, starring Alan Cumming and David Morrissey, follows the escalating feud between neighbours Leo and Clive, which ends in tragedy.
The Final Episode's Horrific Events
The sequence of events leading to the climax begins when Zee (Iz Hesketh) takes Clive's son George (Jackson Connor) for a night out in Manchester's Gay Village. They drink excessively, and George shares photos of himself with a glamorous makeover. The next day, George becomes the target of aggressive remarks from Roddy (George Miller) at a football viewing party. Zee, now calling herself Flo, tries to defuse the situation, but Leo intervenes, escalating tensions.
Minutes later, Clive sees images and videos streamed to the TV revealing his eldest son's online sex work and his youngest son's night out. He is mocked for previously helping an attacked drag queen, with Roddy suggesting Clive had an affair with her. This triggers Clive and his football-loving friends to attack Leo, ultimately hanging him from a lamppost outside his home. The group flees, leaving Clive in shock.
Viewer Reactions
Viewers have expressed outrage and shock on social media. One wrote: 'The last episode of Tip Toe is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen in my life. I am in bits.' Another said: 'They warned us right at the start... but nothing could prepare for seeing the dehumanisation and the pack mentality.' A third described it as 'terrifying' and a 'devastating wake up call.' Reddit users also voiced their trauma, with one calling it 'mentally scarring.'
Aftermath and Character Fates
The episode concludes with text revealing the characters' fates. Most involved in Leo's death are convicted as accomplices to murder, receiving sentences of up to 10 years, reduced on appeal to four or five. Roddy gets a life sentence, and Clive a mandatory life sentence. Marie Goss (Pooky Quesnel), George, and Saul move to Whitby, then Scotland, changing their surnames. George drops out of university and has multiple drug-related convictions. Saul meets a woman named Annie and has three children. Zee becomes a teacher named Sarah. Melba gets blind drunk every year on the anniversary. Spit and Polish is inherited by Leo's ex-partner Curtis (Charlie Condou), who sells it, turning it into a pizzeria. The final caption reads: 'And Leo's story isn't over. It keeps changing. Within 18 months, a search for his name says: Leo Struthers, convicted paedophile.'
