The One Show presenters have paid emotional tributes to Kevin Keegan, who has been hailed as a "legend" following his death aged 75.
On Friday, August 21, hosts JB Gill and Angellica Bell led tributes to the former Liverpool and Newcastle United star, while Morning Live presenter Dr Xand van Tulleken remembered him as a "legend". The programme also aired a pre-recorded clip from artist Adebanji Alade, who spoke to fans ahead of Sunday's memorial at St James' Park.
A minute's applause before kick-off
On Sunday, August 23, ahead of a match between two of Keegan's former clubs, Newcastle United and Liverpool, a minute's applause will be held before kick-off. The teams will also be warming up in special shirts and wearing black armbands, and a display will be placed using shirts from fans with messages to Keegan written on them.
Adebanji spoke to volunteers from Newcastle United fan group Wor Flags, who are preparing a stadium-wide display to honour Keegan. One told him: "We just wanted to pay tribute to someone who many of us believe to be the most important man in the history of Newcastle United."
Fans pay respects at St James' Park
Adebanji said: "Kevin Keegan did it all for club and country. He won league titles and European cups with Liverpool, played back-to-back Ballon d'Ors at Hamburg, then as both player and manager, he took Newcastle to the brink of the Premier League title.
"When news of his death broke, hundreds of fans headed to St James' Park to play their respects."
Keegan died in July aged 75. He had revealed he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer weeks before his family announced the news of his death.
Cancer diagnosis revealed
Keegan revealed he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in June, weeks before his death. His family had originally shared the news that he was battling the disease in January, after he had "further evaluation of ongoing abdominal symptoms" in hospital.
In a rare public appearance after the news, Keegan said on stage at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House: "I was in a car accident and, through that, I had to have an operation, whilst having the scan for the operation, they found out I had cancer. They said they had an absolute top doctor for fighting what you have got, which is stage four cancer.
"So I went to meet him. He's a Liverpool supporter so I knew I wouldn't walk alone."
The One Show airs weeknights from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
