Coronation Street fans were quick to fume as they spotted a loved character's 'return' to their old ways, leaving them branding Glenda Shuttleworth the 'star' of the show.
Todd Grimshaw continues to have a difficult time in the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, following the murder of his abusive husband, Theo Silverton, earlier this year. His death occurred in April, months after viewers were told that five villains were at risk of being killed off during a flashforward episode of Corrie, which saw Betsy Swain being interviewed by the police about finding the dead body of someone she knew.
Theo's murder revealed
Eventually, a week after the wedding aired, it was revealed that Theo was the victim, not Carl Webster, Jodie Ramsey, Megan Walsh or Maggie Driscoll, which came after he tried to torment his long-suffering partner, Todd, who had already been subjected to months of physical and mental abuse at his hands, for one last time.
A 'whodunnit' having quickly got underway, and Summer Spellman found herself briefly behind bars, accused of Theo's murder. She was eventually released after Tyrone Dobbs came clean about seeing her on the night of Theo's death, while in scenes aired to viewers in June, it was revealed that it was actually Sarah Platt who killed the dastardly builder. She appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground - before she called on her former flame, Gary Windass, for help.
Todd's return and drinking concerns
As Todd struggled in the aftermath of his abusive husband's murder, Sarah ended up confessing the truth of her crime to her best friend, while her partner, DC Kit Green, found out when she admitted to killing Theo as he was trying to pop the question. It led Todd to end their friendship. But following his return to Weatherfield this week, having spent time in Thailand with Summer, his mum Eileen and brother Jason, Todd headed to see Sarah, and while he admitted he still struggles to understand why she let Summer languish behind bars, he did admit he loved her and reinstated their friendship.
But there has been concerns for Todd, as his loved ones have picked up on his heavy drinking. During Friday's (August 21) episode of Corrie, Summer and Christina Boyd, shared their concerns with Todd, while Glenda took a 'tough love' approach and called him out on his recent behaviour, telling him that if he continues to treat his friends like dirt, he won’t have a single one left.
Fans demand Glenda gets a win
The comments only riled Todd up and later, Todd learned from his new client, Celeste, at the Undertakers that her neighbour, Fraser, who Glenda was seen taking a shine to, is gay, and that he thought the Rovers barmaid's interest in him was only as an LGBTQ+ ally. Cunduring up a plan, Celeste left their latest meeting unimpressed and Todd ended up back in the pub.
Glenda was taken aback when Todd angrily confronted her in front the Rovers punters, accusing her of gossiping about him and in a cruel move, he found Fraser as he made his way for his 'date' with Glenda, told him she was ill and ended up enjoying a flirt with the newcomer himself. One thing then led to another and soon, Glenda was stunned to see a shirtless Todd and half-dressed Fraser making their way down the stairs at No.11.
And Todd's latest move hasn't gone down well with Corrie fans, with many jumping to share their praise for Glenda instead. @xxAlicia89 noted: "Todd being horrible, back to his nasty self #Corrie." @mishybabez_ said: "Todd was horrible doing that to Glenda after she supported him throughout Theo! He's gonna lose his friends if he carries on! #Corrie." @Winis_World wrote: "Todd handled that terribly! He needs to stop with the drinking, late nights, and continuous one-night stands #Corrie."
@C70268211 demanded: "Glenda is due a win #Corrie Christina setting up credit cards in her name and stealing money, Todd stealing her dates... She needs a win now! Get her some happiness!" @swarlano6 echoed: "I have said it before and I'll say it again, Glenda deserves a proper good storyline, Jodie Prenger is amazing! #corrie." @ThomasR14336083 added: "Love for Glenda to have a nice romance.
