The Hollies have announced that they are retiring from live performance. Guitarist Tony Hicks is stepping back "due to health reasons," while drummer Bobby Elliott has decided to retire with him "out of respect for Tony and everything they have shared throughout their remarkable journey together."
The announcement comes after more than six decades of performing together. The band, formed in 1962, shared the news in a statement posted on Instagram.
Farewell statement to fans
In their statement, The Hollies wrote: "After more than six decades, The Hollies' touring career will come to a close with immense gratitude to the fans who have supported them around the world." The message was signed off simply as "The Hollies."
The band will no longer be touring, bringing an end to a career that has spanned over 60 years.
Heartbroken fan reactions
Supporters responded to the announcement in the comments section, with many expressing their sadness. One admirer wrote: "I'm sad I never got to see them live but I'm glad that he is putting his health first."
Another responded: "We are sorry to hear this but will do our best not just to keep their music alive but to honour their legacy in the best possible way."
