Strictly Come Dancing contestant John Nellis has revealed that he and his professional partner Katya Jones will perform a routine inspired by the 1997 film Titanic during Movie Week.
The social media personality made his Strictly debut on Saturday, September 26, with a Foxtrot that earned 31 points from the judges, placing him top of the first week's leaderboard. That score will now be combined with his forthcoming performance.
Clue on Good Morning Britain
Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, September 30, the 33-year-old Irish competitor discussed the upcoming routine with hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid. Offering a clue, John said: "It's Movie week, and I'm from Belfast, so I think there's a pretty-" When Susanna suggested The Commitments, John clarified that wasn't correct.
Katya then revealed they would perform a routine based on the 1997 film Titanic. Susanna responded: "Ah, Harland and Wolff, yes, the shipyard." Harland and Wolff is the historic shipbuilding firm that constructed the RMS Titanic for the White Star Line, with construction beginning in 1909 and finishing in early April 1912.
Back to square one
John added: "It's going to be something out of Titanic." Katya remarked: "The hard thing about Strictly is, yes, we're top of the leaderboard, it's really lovely. We've been watching this video. I'm just so proud of everything we've worked for."
Katya told Ed and Susanna that when rehearsals resumed, they had gone "back to square one", conceding it was "tough" before revealing their bodies were aching from the routine.
New hosts discussed
During the interview, they also spoke about new hosts Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe and the backlash some have received from viewers. Katya said: "As a dancer, standing there and talking to Johannes, someone who has done it himself, he really empathises with us. It's really comforting, and that's a really good shout having him just after the stressful moment of doing the dance and receiving the scores to come back and go, 'You know what it's like'. I think that's really comforting to have upstairs as a professional dancer."
