Strictly Come Dancing made its proper return with a first live show that was joyously full of hoofing promise and pleasant hostly surprises, a sparkly sign that autumn is upon us.

The opening live show of the 2024 series delivered an evening of glitter and entertainment, setting the tone for the weeks ahead. Viewers were treated to a showcase of dancing talent and a warm welcome back to the ballroom.

The liveblog will return for the first elimination weekend, newly announced to be Movie Week, which starts at the same time of 6.15pm next Saturday. The host invited readers to rejoin then, and to connect on social media, saying: "Thanks for watching along with me, not to mention for all your wise, witty contributions.
