Wayne Rooney has dismissed speculation that he has been using a so-called "weight loss pen," insisting he is working hard to shed pounds. The former footballer addressed the rumours after stepping out with his wife Coleen at the premiere of their new Disney Plus series, The Real Rooneys, earlier this week.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Rooney said: "Apparently I've seen recently I've been taking this pen thing about me. It's a shame, because I'm working really hard to lose weight. Apparently I've been on the pen."
Nose job explained
Coleen Rooney also addressed her husband's nose job, clarifying it was carried out for medical reasons rather than cosmetic ones. She told him: "I thought you were gonna say then, my nose wasn't a cosmetic job, it was a medical job!"
Wayne explained the reason for the operation, saying: "I couldn't blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed." Coleen added: "I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring."
The 40-year-old, who recently launched her second collection with Primark, also spoke about her fitness routine. She said: "It's one of those things, I have to go to the gym to maintain because I'm only short, I want to enjoy my food. If I don't work at it I will put weight on and so that's something I have to do for myself, and to feel good, so I do go to Pilates. I enjoy it and for now for me to just focus on something else, that's always been part of my routine."
Opening up their home
Coleen previously shared that it felt like the right time to allow cameras into their home and give fans a glimpse into their personal life. Speaking to the Press Association at the premiere in London, she said it felt like the right time to show audiences what their life looks like at home.
She said: "We don't have to prove ourselves. But what I think is nice is that [the series shows] we are real people. I think people looking at people in the public eye think they're not real and we don't do things everyone else does, so I think they will get a taste of that on the series."
The mum-of-four added: "I think the big thing is the world has changed and everything gets played out on social media, whether you are in the public eye or not. Time has moved on, but also we had a taste of it after doing our own documentary each and having people in the house and filming, which opened our eyes."
She said they were "at a time in our lives when we are ready to open up that little bit more."
Family life and release details
The Real Rooneys follows the family as Wayne steps away from football management, swapping the touchline for school runs, while Coleen embraces the biggest opportunities of her career, including designing her own range with Primark.
The family-of-six live in a mansion close to Mobberley in Cheshire. The home's official name is High Lake Manor and it sits on 50 acres of farmland, worlds apart from the modest Croxteth homes Coleen and Wayne grew up in.
The series will have 10 episodes. Viewers will be able to stream episodes one to eight on Disney Plus on Thursday September 24, with two special episodes available to stream on Thursday, October 1.
