Robbie Ure has revealed why his Scotland strip carried his full name on the back for his international debut against Slovenia. The Sevilla striker started alongside Oli McBurnie in Sebastien Pocognoli's first match in charge of the country, which ended in a goalless draw.
Striker's rise and near-miss
Ure's prolific scoring record for Swedish outfit Sirius earned him a big-money move to La Liga and brought him into Scotland contention under the new Belgian boss. He came close to marking his debut with a goal when he struck the outside of the post shortly before half-time.
But what caught the eye of the Tartan Army during the first 45 minutes was the name on the back of Ure's shirt. He was handed the No.10 jersey but had "Robbie Ure" printed above rather than the traditional second name.
Why Robbie Ure instead of Ure
Explaining the decision to BBC Scotland, Ure said: "I've just been asked that - I've been asked that by about ten people already!"
"A lot of people will just call me, they'll always say Robbie Ure. They wouldn't just say Ure, so that was a reason. And then to be honest, I think U-R-E is just so small, I just don't really like it. So I put my first name in as well. I've got it at club level too, I just prefer it. I'm proud of my surname, but I just prefer having Robbie in it as well."
