Newcastle's 'hidden' Christmas bar is returning for the 2026 festive season, with bookings now live for tables at Rusty's Showbar in the city centre. The pop-up, which transforms the bottom end of the venue into a Santa's Grotto-style space, promises even more 90s nostalgia with its decor, drinks, food menu, music and movies.
For several years, the bar has been a seasonal staple for many in the area, with decorations reminiscent of a childhood living room, a grandmother's house or a school assembly hall in December. The venue also plays Christmas classics on loop and shows festive films on its screens.
Festive food, drinks and cinema sessions
Last year, a new addition was the bar's cinema sessions, with evening screenings for adults and afternoon ones for families. The food and drink menu is also festive, with dishes including loaded roast potatoes, sprout and chestnut topped nachos, pigs in blankets and camembert bites, alongside cocktails such as the Gingerbread and Jack Frost.
Announcing its return, Rusty's posted: 'Step inside our Retro Christmas Pop-Up and get ready for festive cocktails, Christmas bites, nostalgic décor, twinkling lights and plenty of Christmas cheer.' The post added: 'Whether it’s Christmas drinks with friends, a festive date night, the work Christmas get-together or just an excuse to get into the Christmas spirit — we’ve got your table waiting.'
A seasonal staple in Newcastle
The return comes as Newcastle gears up for its wider Christmas offering, including the Christmas Market, which will feature a 22m big wheel this year, along with pantos and the annual light switch-on.
