Raye was the headline act on the second day of Reading Festival 2026, and despite battling multiple technical difficulties and restarting a song after messing up lyrics, fans left her Saturday 29 August slot feeling they had witnessed the show of their lives. The South London singer was late to her set, yet the crowd's reaction was overwhelmingly emotional.
"I can't believe how good she was," one fan said in teary breaths as she left the festival grounds. "Wow. Just... wow," said another. Girls everywhere were crying, smiling and hugging as they made their way home.
A Joyful Start Despite Delays
The first moment of sheer joy came when Raye finally appeared on stage. Opting out of heels, she ran on, grabbed her microphone and performed one of her classics, Escapism, before telling the audience she would chat soon and barrelling into South London Lover Boy. Everyone had already forgotten the set was happening about 10 minutes later than expected.
After her second song, she explained that the backlights spelling her name were not working and she had tried to get them fixed before coming out, but they would not work. "We're going to have fun anyway, aren't we?" she screamed, and the crowd screamed with her.
Embracing Mistakes On Stage
Raye's performance was marked by a willingness to show imperfection. If a song was too quick and she messed up the opening rap, as she did in WhatsApp Shakespeare, she stopped the performance, saying: "Nah, nah, nah that sucked, let's do it again." One fan responded: "She's so real for that."
She also took a moment to reveal she had previously "begged" to perform at Reading. She told the audience: "Six years ago, I said to my agent, 'Please book me for Reading' and they kept saying 'We're sorry but they're not interested'. I never thought that six years later I would be headlining."

The emotional peak came when Raye brought out her sisters, Amma and Absolutely, for her penultimate song Joy. Amma had an issue with her ear piece and stumbled through her lyrics, but Raye gave her a big hug, as did Absolutely when she came on stage. Despite the mistakes, Amma could not stop smiling thanks to the crowd's support.
When the set ended, everyone's knees were tired from jumping, throats were sore from screaming and cheeks ached from grinning, with one thought on each mind: Can Raye come back again tomorrow?
