Prince Harry to Meet King Charles During UK Visit Next Month

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to visit the United Kingdom next month, marking their first family trip to Britain in years. The visit will include a meeting between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles III, according to royal sources.

Security Concerns Resolved

The Duke of Sussex had previously taken the Home Office to court over security arrangements during his visits to the UK, a case he ultimately lost. However, royal expert Rebecca English reported that Harry is now satisfied with the security provisions, paving the way for the trip. Harry told the BBC last year that he could not see a scenario in which he would bring his wife and children back to Britain, but this development has changed that stance.

Family Reunion Uncertain

While Harry is expected to meet the King, it remains unclear whether King Charles will see his grandchildren, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet. The King last saw them during the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Rebecca English wrote in The Daily Mail's Palace Confidential newsletter that some family members will not forgive Harry for betraying the Firm. However, she noted that King Charles is "acutely aware that his two youngest grandchildren are not the instigators of the hostility and manipulation we have seen in recent years." She added: "They are innocents caught up in a very sad and bitter family rift, even if it is one of their own parents’ making. Afterwards… well, that’s entirely down to the Sussexes. And courtiers will be watching closely."

Buckingham Palace Update

Separately, it was confirmed on Thursday that the King and Queen will not live at Buckingham Palace once nearly £370 million of refurbishment work is completed. James Chalmers, Keeper of the Privy Purse, stated: "I can update you that after careful consideration, and to greatly increase opportunities for public access, the King and Queen have decided not to adopt Buckingham Palace as a personal residence and will instead continue to use Clarence House as their London home. Their Majesties will, however, have access to private rooms within the palace where they can retire during the course of a working day, and which could be utilised as potential residential accommodation in times ahead."
