Prince Harry 'desperate' to rejoin Royal Family, author claims

Prince Harry is 'desperate' to find a way back to England and rejoin the Royal Family after his disastrous High Court loss against the publisher of the Daily Mail, according to controversial royal author Tom Bower.

High Court defeat overshadows UK visit

Harry's visit to the UK this week was overshadowed by a chaotic dispute over whether he would stay at Buckingham Palace, followed by the dismissal of all 14 of his claims against Associated Newspapers by the High Court on Tuesday. The Duke of Sussex had pursued a personal crusade against the press, but the case ended in a monumental defeat.

Speaking after the verdict, Bower told the Daily Express: 'In the last year, I've thought that Harry's desperate. He's desperate because he's got no role, he's desperate because they're running out of money. He's desperate to find a way back to England somehow, to reestablish himself as a working, hardworking royal. I think Meghan encouraged him to do that because she's run out of roads, too.'

Security concerns and family visits

Bower's comments come amid reports that Harry is 'frantically' trying to secure additional private security for his family. A royal source told the Mirror: 'While nothing has been ruled out, conversations remain ongoing.' Another source added: 'The King would not pass up the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, and if there is a way of making it possible, he will do it.'

It was originally reported that Harry and Meghan hoped to return to the UK together with their children to meet King Charles, whom they have not seen since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. However, after the confusion over Harry's accommodation at Buckingham Palace—with claims the invitation was 'withdrawn'—Meghan and the children stayed in Europe, believed to be at their holiday home in Portugal.

Althorp House closure speculation

There was also speculation that the couple had planned to stay with Harry's uncle, Charles, Earl Spencer, at Althorp House in Northamptonshire, which is mysteriously closed to the public on July 10 and 11.

Sussexes' response to Bower

Bower's remarks follow an explosive statement from the Sussexes after the release of his book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family, earlier this year. The statement accused Bower of having 'long crossed the line from criticism into fixation,' and quoted him as saying 'the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life.' The statement concluded: 'Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.'
