Filming for the BBC's spin-off period drama, The Other Bennet Sister, has wrapped. The three sequel episodes, set to air this Christmas, were primarily filmed on location in Wales over the summer.
TV producer Edoardo Ferretti broke the news on Instagram in a sweet post, writing: “And yet another wrap! Every time emotional, every time proud. This one is going to be so Special!” Many fans of The Other Bennet Sister rushed to the comments section to share their reactions, reports the Mirror.
Fans and Russell T. Davies react
One person posted: “This has to be the best Christmas present.” While a second equally-excited follower wrote: “So so excited for this already! Can’t wait to see Mr and Mrs Hayward on screen.” Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies also wrote: “Ahh can’t wait!” followed by a heart emoji.
A fourth person wrote: “I'll need to stock up on tissues in advance! I love The other Bennett sister so much!” Yet another person commented: “This is such a sweet series. Its like a warm cozy blanket on a snowy winter day!” They added: “Its on repeat rotation of a small list of comfort shows [sic].”
Special episodes and future plans
The BBC announced the three, half-hour Christmas specials back in June, following the immense success of the show. However, the BBC is yet to confirm when these festive instalments will be landing. The specials come as fans were left demanding a second season after the show aired earlier this year.
The forthcoming episodes will be focusing on Mary Bennet (played by Ella Bruccoleri) and her marriage to lawyer Tom Hayward (Dónal Finn) after they married at the end of the series. BritBox TV executive Jess O’Riordan said: “We know how much audiences have fallen in love with Mary Bennet, and we’re thrilled that her story isn’t over yet.” Adding: “We are so pleased Mary’s story will continue for three more chapters and to welcome audiences back into the world of The Other Bennet Sister this holiday season.”
Although the Jane Austen drama with a twist is unlikely to return for another series, the BBC recently suggested that it was looking into adapting The Other Bennet Sister author Janice Hadlow’s forthcoming book The Other Elliot Sister, according to the Radio Times. The Other Elliot Sister would be inspired by Jane Austen’s cherished novel Persuasion.
Regency drama trend
The success of The Other Bennet Sister appears to be part of a growing trend for Regency period drama, as 2026 also saw the release of Bridgerton season four, while Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility both arrive this autumn. The Other Bennet Sister Christmas special will air on BBC One later this year.
