North East bakery battles to retain national title

Grant's Bakery in Corbridge, Northumberland, is hoping to retain its Craft Bakery Business of the Year title at the 2026 Baking Industry Awards. The independent, family-owned bakery has previously won the accolade in 2020 and again last year.

One of six finalists in national competition

Grant's is one of six businesses in the running for the award this year. Judges will visit every finalist to meet their teams and taste their products. The winner will be announced at a ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane hotel in London in November.

The bakery is known for its handmade products, with everything made at its bakery on Vallum Farm, a short distance from the shop. It has a single shop in Corbridge.

Team praised as bakery reaches final again

Master baker Andrew Cotterill said: "Being back in the final is down to the whole team. Everything we sell is made by hand at our bakery on Vallum Farm or on site at the shop, and people start in the small hours to get it right every day. Whatever happens in London, I'm proud of what we make here for Corbridge."

Customer feedback for Grant's has been consistently positive. One recent Google review read: "Exceptional in every way, we stumbled across the treasure looking for a coffee shop to break the journey. Exceptional decadent awesome selection of wonderful pastries and cakes. Five star all the way."
