The BBC has announced that its upcoming comedy series Ann Droid, starring Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan, will premiere in July. The six-part sitcom explores artificial intelligence and the bond between a widow and her robot companion.
Plot and Cast
Ann Droid centers on Sue (Sue Johnston), a widower whose son Michael (Paul Ready) gives her an AI eldercare robot named Linda (Diane Morgan), officially designated the AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot. The robot is built to keep elderly people company and monitor their health, but Sue initially finds her gift to be a nightmare. However, she soon realizes she can use the droid to settle scores and do tasks her son neglects. The series is described as a buddy comedy between an older woman and her socially awkward robot.
