Meghan Markle was absent from the Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, October 30, despite receiving a nomination for her television show With Love, Meghan.
The Duchess was nominated in the Outstanding Lifestyle Programme category, which was ultimately won by A Different Breed. The ceremony marked the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards and took place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, honouring the creators of daytime television, including soap operas, talk shows, culinary series, and travel programmes.
Despite her nomination, Markle was not seen on the red carpet at the event.
Awards Highlights and Markle's Absence
At the ceremony, General Hospital took home the top prize for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, while Beyond the Gates secured four wins from its landmark 15 nominations during its first year of eligibility.
Markle has not returned to the United States since she and Prince Harry relocated their family to the United Kingdom in August. Attending the awards would have required a significant travel commitment.
Plans for the Holidays and Return to TV
It is believed the Sussexes will travel back to the US over the holiday season, with reports suggesting they consider spending Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham too "awkward and too difficult." Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, is expected to join them wherever they celebrate the holiday with Archie and Lilibet.
Since filming With Love, Meghan, the Duchess has taken a break from television, but it was announced this week that she will return to screens next year. Markle will serve as a judge on the upcoming series of Junior MasterChef Australia.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is reportedly excited about her new television role, is expected to head to Australia next year for several weeks of filming in Melbourne. It remains unclear whether Harry and the children will join her.
