Manchester United youngster Shea Lacey scored a superb goal for England's Under-20s against Italy on Friday afternoon. Lacey was introduced to the game from the bench with England leading 2-1, and it took the youngster just 10 minutes to extend the advantage, cutting in from the right to find the top left corner.
19-minute cameo
The 19-year-old skipped beyond his marker, who fell to the floor, before he found the back of the net. Harry Amass and Ayden Heaven started for England's Under-20s against Italy and played the entire game for the Three Lions, while Lacey made the most of his 19-minute cameo from the bench.
Carabao Cup heroics
Lacey opened the scoring for United against Brighton in the third round of the Carabao Cup. He was subsequently named on the bench at Craven Cottage as United drew 1-1 against Fulham before the international break.
Carrick praise
Michael Carrick heaped praise on Lacey for his Brighton goal when he spoke recently to MUTV. "It was amazing for Shea and his family and everyone at the academy, connected to the academy, I think, to bring Shea through on his journey and to see him start a game at Old Trafford," he said. "And for him to do what he does best. I've seen him do that on the pitches outside there [at Carrington] quite a few times and that's his little spot, you know? Getting there and turning on his left foot and coming inside."
"I'm delighted for him. The way the game pans out and the finish of the game and the result, I think it takes it away a little bit but, when the dust settles and he can have a moment, I think he can be very proud of himself because it was a big moment for him."
United permanently promoted Lacey to the first-team in the spring. The youngster was handed his senior debut against Aston Villa in December, and he made a further three senior appearances before the end of the campaign.
