Man Utd Stars Pick Patrick Dorgu as Next Breakout Star Under Carrick
Man Utd Stars Single Out Dorgu as Next Emerging Star

Manchester United stars Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro have both singled out Patrick Dorgu as the club's next emerging star under manager Michael Carrick. The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign at Old Trafford, contributing four goals and four assists while showcasing his versatility across multiple positions.

Dorgu's Stellar Season

The Denmark international featured at left wing-back, left-midfield, left-wing and right-wing under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick. He rounded off the season with a goal and assist in United's commanding 3-0 victory at Brighton. His standout display against Manchester City, where he netted in the 2-0 win, further highlighted his ability to make an impact in crucial matches.

Team-Mates' Praise

When asked who would be the standout performer next season, Mainoo was quick to respond: "I'd say Patrick [Dorgu]. I'd say he can go up another level again. In training, some of the stuff he's doing, you can see him really pushing." Yoro highlighted Dorgu's adaptability: "Sometimes he plays winger as well, I think in this position, [he's] really dangerous for the opponent. He gives a lot to the team as well."

Carrick's Reluctance to Pin Down Dorgu

Carrick admitted after the win against Brighton that he was reluctant to tie Dorgu down to a single role. Speaking in January, the United boss said: "I think he was immense last week, his work rate and the way he played the position, but the threat, constant threat. And the goal was the obvious one but I think his general play was something we were really pleased about. I wouldn't want to pin him down [to a position], to be honest. I think he can do both, but certainly attacking-wise in that threat, he was pretty impressive last week."

Dorgu on Carrick's Appointment

Dorgu opened up about Carrick's permanent appointment following the win over Brighton, revealing the squad are thrilled to continue with the former United midfielder at the helm. The Dane said: "Yeah, we're all really happy. You can see the impact from him since the first day he came, so it's good to have him and hopefully we'll do even better next season. Obviously, the formation has changed, and the start place is a bit different to the old coach. So I think we're all just trying to improve and game by game we're getting even better. So yeah, it's good to have him and his ideas and everything, so we're all excited for the next season."

Looking Ahead

Dorgu is currently enjoying an extended summer break as Denmark failed to qualify for the World Cup 2026. Next season will see the youngster play in the Champions League for the first time in his career, adding to the excitement surrounding his potential.
