Lorraine Kelly has revealed that being a grandmother is her "real job," prioritised above her television career, and that she was left "more upset" by how ITV's recent budget cuts affected her team rather than her own reduced airtime.
Kelly, one of Britain's best-known presenters with more than four decades on air, hosts her own ITV daytime show, Lorraine, and has appeared on flagship programmes such as Good Morning Britain and This Morning.
ITV Schedule Changes and Team Impact
As part of a significant ITV shake-up disclosed in 2025, Lorraine was trimmed to a 30-minute slot rather than an hour and limited to 30 weeks annually. Loose Women was also scaled back to a similar 30-week pattern.
Speaking to The Sunday Post, Kelly said: "Things have changed. We have to be realistic, but I was more upset to say goodbye to an awful lot of my team, who were fantastic. I just feel very lucky that I'm still doing it and I now have more time to concentrate on family, travel and writing."
Grandmother Role Takes Priority
Kelly, 66, also described her role as grandmother to two-year-old Billie, daughter of her daughter Rosie, as her "proper job." She explained: "I'd consider babysitting my real job. That's my proper job and everything else just kind of fits around the babysitting." She said the role keeps her young and fit, as you "want to be able to keep up with them," and that she now has "so much more" patience than when her own daughter was young.
Kelly has also established herself as a bestselling author, publishing her debut novel, The Island Swimmer, in 2024, and her second, The Island Secret, this year. She is due to attend the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
Future TV Plans and Team Concerns
Regarding her future on television, Kelly told The Mirror in 2025 that she doesn't intend to stop anytime soon, saying: "I don't see me going anywhere until people get fed up, you know? Until people say, I've had enough of that one."
She reiterated concerns about staff impact, adding: "It's really heartbreaking to split up the team, a lot of my team have been with me for more than 20 years, and they're my friends. I've grown up with them. They were babies when they started with me, and now they've got babies of their own." Kelly is set to appear on James Martin's Saturday Morning on ITV on August 29, from 9.30am to 12pm.
