London Pride Issues Statement Denying Madonna Surprise Appearance
London Pride Denies Madonna Surprise Appearance

London Pride organisers have issued a statement clarifying that pop icon Madonna will not be appearing at the event this year, putting an end to widespread speculation. Rumours had circulated that the 67-year-old singer would make a surprise appearance on the main stage in Trafalgar Square.

Rumours and Denial

An insider had previously told The Sun that organisers were 'playing it by ear' in case plans changed at the last minute, adding: 'But as it stands, Madonna is primed to come out on the main stage.' The source claimed the Vogue hitmaker 'wouldn't be performing' but would instead 'speak to the crowd'. Pride bosses were reportedly 'expecting absolute pandemonium if they pulled it off'.

However, Pride in London posted on social media: 'In response to the rumours, we can confirm that Madonna will not be appearing or performing at Pride in London. We have two fantastic headliners at Trafalgar Square to conclude a brilliant day of protest and celebration.'

Fan Reactions

Reacting to the clarification, fans expressed amusement at how the rumours gained so much momentum that the event had to 'do a PSA'. A disappointed @nova_kid96 on Instagram commented: 'Well there's always next year 🤷🏽'. It is understood that there had been communication between organisers and Madonna, but she was never a confirmed attendee.

Confirmed Lineup

Instead of Madonna, who released her new album Confessions II this week, MNEK will headline the main stage this weekend. Hosts include Asifa Lahore, Ade Adepitan, Tia Kofi, and Will Njobvu. Other confirmed performers include Beth Ditto and rising star Meek, along with a range of speakers from the LGBTQ+ community.

The 2026 parade saw thousands line the streets of London, with Mayor Sadiq Khan leading a chant of 'Happy Pride'. More than a million people were expected to attend, with the procession running from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Place via Piccadilly.

Madonna's LGBTQ+ Advocacy

Madonna kicked off Pride Month with a free gig in Times Square, partnering with Grindr. She performed tracks including I Feel So Free and Love Sensation, joined by backing dancers. The show included a moment of scandal as she threw her leg over a plastic barrier more than 30 feet above ground.

Madonna has long been a vocal ally of the LGBTQ+ community. She was one of the first celebrities to raise funds for AIDS research and advocate for gay acceptance. She was considered the first worldwide celebrity of her era to give an interview to national gay magazine The Advocate and is credited with bringing queer culture, such as voguing, to the mainstream.

In 2012, Madonna was sued in Russia after comments made at a St Petersburg show. She told the crowd: 'Gay people here and all around the world have the same rights to be treated with dignity, with respect, with tolerance, with compassion, with love.' She later revealed she was fined $1 million for her remarks but never paid. She has received awards for her pioneering allyship and stated she 'wouldn't have a career if it weren't for the gay community'.
