Kojo Funds on Ed Sheeran Surprise and RAYE's Transformation

Kojo Funds has opened up about meeting Ed Sheeran, working with RAYE, and his decade-long journey in music as he celebrates his return with a new EP.

The Afroswing pioneer is marking ten years in the industry with his brand-new EP, HELLO IT'S ME AGAIN, released on August 21. Despite sharing stages and studios with some of the biggest names in music, Kojo admits there are still moments when even he can be caught off guard by a superstar.

Meeting Ed Sheeran and Wizkid

Asked about the celebrity encounters that have stayed with him, Kojo picked out Wizkid and Ed Sheeran. He described both as surprisingly down-to-earth.

"When I met Wiz he was the cool chill laidback character I like a lot. It was like chilling with friends or family, not arrogant at all, and the same for Ed Sheeran, the superstar he is for him to like my music and be such a chill person surprised me to."

Working with RAYE in Ghana

Kojo also reflected on working with RAYE, describing her as hugely talented but initially quiet and shy. "Working with Raye was honestly amazing, to see such a quiet chill girl with so much talent, songwriting ability and wonderful vocals was nice to see, she's very gifted."

One of his favourite memories came while the pair were in Ghana, where he watched RAYE break out of her comfort zone. "We got some nice memories but chilling with her in Ghana was a vibe. To think she was so shy but she came out her comfort zone dancing to afrobeats, also she is very funny and has a lot of jokes, it was great to be around her."

New EP and Future Plans

His new EP features six tracks, including Long Time, Problems, Ready, With You, How Many and I Need, blending his trademark Afroswing sound with Afrobeat and dancehall influences inspired by his Ghanaian and Dominican roots. The project arrives alongside How Many, a summer-ready dancehall track produced by Grammy-winning Ghanaian producer Killbeatz, who has also worked with Wizkid, Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran.

Kojo says his ambitions remain high, with a number one record and album and a headline show at London's O2 Arena among his biggest goals. For the rest of 2026, fans can expect "more features and collabs" and "possibly a headline show".

Looking back, Kojo admits he wishes he had understood the business side of music sooner. "The only career regret I would say is the choices of people I had around me at the beginning of my career and also learning the business side of things in music."
