Kirkhill Bowling Club in Cambuslang held its first-ever Hawaiian Family Fun Day, an event that brought sunshine and smiles to the green. The day was suggested and arranged by recently-joined member Stevie Kerr, with club president Douglas Thomson supporting the fun bowling event and competition designed to showcase the sport. Hawaiian-themed entertainment made it enjoyable for all the family.
Organisers and Thanks
A club spokesperson expressed gratitude: “A massive thank you to everyone who helped organise the event, the businesses that donated raffle prizes and, in particular, Stevie Kerr, who drove it from the start.” They added: “A huge thank you goes to everyone who came along and embraced the Hawaiian theme — the outfits, decorations, music, food and, most importantly, the fantastic atmosphere made it a day to remember.”
The Father-Daughter Final
The bowling competition featured a dramatic 3 bowl-singles knock-out format, with high stakes from the start. The final came down to a father-daughter match between Hugh McNulty, a former men’s club champion, and his daughter Patricia Anderson, who was determined to beat the man who introduced her to the game 36 years ago.
The match was tied at 4-4 going into the last end. The crowd cheered for club legend Hugh, but Tricia embraced the pantomime villain role and stayed focused. Tricia was lying the shot when Hugh had the last bowl. He fired with great line and weight, but the 2008 and 2014 champ missed the jack by a millimetre, handing the title to Tricia.
Future Plans
Days like this highlight what makes Kirkhill Bowling Club a great place to be, and there are already plans to hold the event again next year.
