Kim Kardashian has made a series of bombshell claims about her ex-husband, Kanye West, in a candid new interview, including that he verbally attacked her family during his 2020 presidential bid.
The Jesus Walks star, 49, and reality queen, 45, were once one of the most high-profile couples in the world, but after a bitter divorce following the rapper's public meltdown, they are now worlds apart. Kanye proposed to Kim on her 33rd birthday at a football stadium with a 50-piece orchestra. However, after Kanye's erratic behaviour two years later, compounded by his vocal support for former President Trump and numerous controversial remarks, the SKIMS star filed for divorce.
Kanye later publicly acknowledged his meltdowns and their impact on his family and career. In an apology letter, he blamed his erratic behaviour on his mental health, including his bipolar disorder, and expressed regret for any actions that caused hurt to others.
Scenes cut from reality show
On July 4, 2020, Kanye announced he was running for president, which came as a complete shock to Kim. After pictures went viral of the Through the Wire star with a bemused-looking Donald Trump in the White House, the wheels began to fall off.
At this time, Kim's stepfather, Bruce Jenner, had transitioned to Caitlyn, leaving the Kardashian-Jenner clan reeling. However, Kanye was reportedly only interested in his bid for world domination and is said to have verbally attacked Kim's mum, Kris, and the rest of the family for not supporting him in his bid to become president.
Speaking to the Mail, a producer of Keeping Up With The Kardashians said: "Kanye came to Caitlyn's house with Kim, and he just started ripping into Kris and the family and questioning them about not voting for him. He just made it all about himself." The "30 minute battle" had to be edited out of the reality series.
Kim admits she doesn't know where Kanye lives
Despite sharing four kids and once being splashed on the front of every magazine, Kim admits she doesn't know where Kanye lives. Revealing she communicates with her ex-husband via his new wife, Bianca Censori, or his manager, she said: "I think he has an apartment? [in West Hollywood]."
Kim also revealed she has a codeword for her family if Kanye is hitting the headlines again for all the wrong reasons, and she bans all TV and radio from her household. She explained: "My whole household knows what a 'lockdown' means if I text it. Like, 'We're on lockdown.' No TVs. Not even, like, Sirius XM, because they talk about current events in real time."
Despite insisting she wants her kids to think their dad is the "greatest", Kim claims it is difficult co-parenting with someone who spends so much time out of the country. Claiming Kanye is in town every "few months", she said: "It is challenging co-parenting with someone who comes by every few months." She also said she "makes up stories" to protect them.
Kim's fears for Kanye's future
Kim says she worries about Kanye all the time but still tries to keep the "best memories" of him. However, she concedes she is fearful for the future. Admitting she doesn't think the situation is going to get any better with the star, who tragically lost his mother, Donda, in 2007, she said: "It makes me so sad. And I don't think it's going to get better. I pray it does. For my kids."
Despite their issues, Kim says she is still close with Kanye's family and has an "open-door policy" in her home. She says she encourages them to spend time with the kids whenever they are in town because she wants to "encourage the relationship with their dad."
For the sake of their kids, Kim says she brushes any animosity she may feel towards Kanye "under the carpet". In fact, the former couple spent last Christmas together as they try to navigate their new relationship. Kim signed off: "Last Christmas, I said, 'Sleep over on Christmas Eve. Bring your girlfriend.' I'm easy! 'Let's all do Christmas together.' And I'll recommend it again this year." The Mirror has contacted Kanye's reps for comment.
