Jasmine Harman, a presenter on the long-running property show A Place In The Sun, has paid a heartfelt tribute to Annette Kilgore, a former participant on the programme who is feared dead following devastating wildfires in southern Spain. Kilgore, 69, went missing after flames tore through her village of Bédar in the Andalusian province of Almería on Thursday, July 9, destroying homes and claiming at least 13 lives.
Harman's Emotional Tribute
Taking to Instagram, Harman expressed her sorrow over the tragedy. She wrote: "Some awful news. You may have seen on the news that Spain has been experiencing some terrible wildfires, and I was so sad to hear of the tragic deaths of several people in Bédar. Sending deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones. Especially to Malcom who previously appeared with his wife Annette on A Place in the Sun. I don’t really have the words to say how very sorry I am for your loss Malcom. I know we have never met, I can’t imagine what you are going through right now. Sending thoughts and prayers. RIP Annette and others."
The Wildfire Disaster
The wildfires, fueled by scorching temperatures, bone-dry terrain, and powerful winds, rapidly engulfed the area, leaving little time for residents to escape. Authorities are currently working to identify the victims, with Kilgore among those unaccounted for. Her husband, Malcolm Timbrell, 70, who also appeared on the show, spoke to the BBC about the harrowing ordeal. He revealed that he lost contact with his wife and around a dozen friends and neighbours as the flames closed in on their home.
Timbrell shared his grief: "We have had an amazing life together, and now it's stopped." He added, "If we had done the sensible thing and gone the other way and let our cats die, we both would be alive. But when you've got animals, you don't think like that." He is now awaiting DNA confirmation of his wife's identity, saying, "And after that, I will probably just fall apart."
The Couple's Dream Move
Malcolm and Annette had relocated to Bédar from Cornwall after appearing on A Place In The Sun in 2023. The episode featured presenter Leah Charles-King helping the couple find their dream home overseas. At the start of the episode, Annette, who had retired after a long career in mental health, expressed her eagerness to embrace the Spanish way of life, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The tragedy has cast a shadow over the show's community, with Harman's tribute highlighting the deep personal connections formed through the programme. As the search for answers continues, the focus remains on supporting those affected by the devastating fires.
