Helen Mirren wins Golden Globe Lifetime Achievement Award

The Golden Globe Awards have announced that Dame Helen Mirren, one of Britain's most celebrated acting talents, will be honoured with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the 2025 ceremony.

This distinguished accolade recognises Mirren's remarkable contributions to the world of entertainment spanning more than six decades, during which she has captivated audiences across film, television and stage with her extraordinary versatility and powerful performances.

A Career of Extraordinary Range

From her early days with the Royal Shakespeare Company to her Oscar-winning portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II and her recent blockbuster roles in major franchises, Mirren has consistently demonstrated why she remains one of the most respected figures in the industry.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association praised the 79-year-old actress as "a force of nature whose talent knows no bounds" and highlighted her ability to "effortlessly command every scene she inhabits."

Joining British Acting Royalty

Mirren now joins an elite group of British performers who have received this honour, including fellow icons Dame Judi Dench, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Michael Caine. The award puts her in the company of cinematic legends who have left an indelible mark on global entertainment.

Previous recipients of the Cecil B. DeMille Award include:

  • Meryl Streep
  • Tom Hanks
  • Harrison Ford
  • Jane Fonda
  • Morgan Freeman

What Makes This Honour Special

The timing of this recognition is particularly meaningful as Mirren continues to take on challenging and diverse roles well into her seventh decade in the industry. Her recent work demonstrates the same passion and commitment that has defined her entire career.

"Helen Mirren represents the very best of our industry," said Helen Hoehne, President of the HFPA. "Her body of work spans generations and genres, entertaining global audiences while breaking barriers for women in film."

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place in January 2025, where Mirren will be formally presented with the award that cements her status as one of the true greats of screen and stage.
