The Bafta television awards opened with host Greg Davies taking a young boy away from scrolling on his phone to be immersed in television through the ages. The duo entered into iconic moments from EastEnders, Only Fools And Horses, and Wimbledon.
Opening Jokes and Personal Grievances
Appearing on stage, Davies joked he is once again "not personally nominated" and pointed out that Romesh Ranganathan is nominated twice in a category for which he is eligible. He said: "Will I be punching the air if he loses? We will see. But this is not about the personal grievances that gnaw away at my soul."
Television Under Pressure
Davies continued that television "can feel like an industry under pressure. I've dipped into new media, I've seen what is eating away at our revenues." He pledged that the ceremony will celebrate "proper telly."
The Bafta TV awards will feature musical performances and a host of celebrity presenters. The event can be viewed back in full on BBC iPlayer.
