Gordon Ramsay's Simple Sausage Trick for More Flavour
Gordon Ramsay's Sausage Flavour Tip

Sausages are a versatile staple in many meals, from full English breakfasts to sandwiches, stews, casseroles, and barbecues. However, they can sometimes lack flavour, leaving cooks frustrated. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has shared a simple trick that he says will make sausages have "more flavour."

The Key Step: Remove the Casing

In a YouTube video, Ramsay recommended slicing sausages lengthwise before cooking. He explained: "Pierce that skin because I want all that delicious spicy sausage meat out of the casing. You get more flavour from the sausage when you take them out the casing."

Using a sharp knife, he cut along each sausage and removed the casing. He then cooked the sausagemeat in a frying pan as usual. "This way, you get so much more bang for your buck with sausages with the skins off," Ramsay said.

Versatility with Different Sausages

Ramsay noted that any flavoured sausage benefits from this hack, as removing the skin enhances taste. He also suggested using various sausages for different dishes: chorizo for stews and paellas; merguez for tagines or couscous; Italian fennel sausages for pasta or pizza; and Jamaican jerk sausages for casseroles or with onions and garlic.

"A simple meaty staple that is perfect for quick, easy suppers with a difference are exotic, regional sausages that have such distinctive tastes that are a million miles from the Great British banger," Ramsay said.

Extra Flavour Without Extra Cost

Ramsay emphasized that selecting different sausages adds "extra flavour with ease." He added: "If you spend your money wisely, and you can have amazing midweek meals that don't cost the earth."
