Gordon Ramsay has confirmed that his daughter Megan is engaged, eight months after her sister Holly married Olympian Adam Peaty. The chef made the announcement during an appearance on the American talk show Live with Kelly and Mark.
Holly, 26, married Team GB swimmer Adam Peaty, 31, at Bath Abbey in December last year. While that wedding was overshadowed by Peaty's public fall-out with his own family, Megan's engagement has been confirmed without such controversy.
Ramsay's emotional wedding speech
Speaking on the show, the 59-year-old chef recalled Holly's wedding day, saying: "Yeah, it was just one of those amazing moments. And the speech, it's just your little girl, right?"
He added: "I bawled my eyes out. I was a hot, freaking mess, man. I'm telling you. Honestly, it was just so emotional but the day goes so quick, right?"
He then revealed: "And then last week, our other daughter announced her wedding as well. So it's rolling..."
Megan's low-profile life
A spokesperson for Gordon confirmed to the Mirror that Megan is engaged. Megan, 28, keeps a low public profile and has no public social media accounts. The identity of her fiancé has not been disclosed.
Four years ago, Gordon spoke publicly about his disapproval when Megan reunited with an ex-boyfriend named Byron. On The Kelly Clarkson Show, he described a "terrifying FaceTime call" he made to Byron after getting his number from youngest daughter Tilly.
He said at the time: "I did something really bad last week. Megan started seeing her ex-boyfriend again and his name's Byron... He was OK to begin with, a little bit wet. You want a man to date your daughter, and he was just a little bit pathetic. I want to kill the little f***er! I kid you not, I found out his telephone number from our youngest daughter, Tilly."
He continued: "She gave me it and said, 'Dad, don't do anything', and I said, 'No, just give me it, if anything's wrong I need his number on my phone.' So I waited to find out when they were having dinner together and I FaceTimed him. He answered the phone and the thing was shaking. I said, 'Byron, it's me! Not your future father-in-law, you little f***!' Megan leant over and pushed and cut me off, which was so rude!"
Close bond with Adam Peaty
Despite that episode, Gordon has a good relationship with Tilly's boyfriend, sports podcast host Henry Farrow. He is also close to Adam Peaty, who is expecting his first child with Holly.
Speaking previously about Peaty, Gordon said: "He's a gent, he's an absolute thoroughbred. Adam is so grounded. He's not walking out as Olympic champion with his head up his a***."
That closeness was evident when Peaty appeared on the High Performance podcast, where host Jake Humphrey read out a text Ramsay had sent about his then-future son-in-law. "I want you to know he's an amazing young man with such a great attitude," wrote Ramsay last year. "Honestly, I could not ask for a more down-to-earth, respectable future son-in-law. What he's achieved is incredible, and he's not done yet. Looking forward to catching up soon."
Peaty was moved by the message, saying: "That makes me emotional. I don't want to cry on the podcast, but it makes me very emotional."
