Gogglebox stars Lee Riley and Jenny Newby have thanked fans in a heartfelt video message posted before the latest episode aired on Channel 4. The duo, best friends on and off screen, shared the clip on the show's official Instagram page, holding up the award they won at the National Television Awards (NTAs).
Message of thanks before Friday's episode
In the video, Lee began: "Hi everybody!" with Jenny adding: "Hi everybody." He continued: "We would just like to thank you all so much for this" before proudly holding up the gong. Lee added: "Thank you so much for voting for us at the National Television Awards. It means the world to us, to all of us, and our families, and the crew and the runners and the edit."
Jenny then pointed out: "And me. Don't forget about me." Lee responded: "You're in it, Jenny. You're in it." He passed the trophy to his best friend, who excitedly said "Thank you" before jokingly adding: "Oh it's heavy ain't it. Take it back."
Fans congratulate the cast
Fans flooded the comment section to congratulate the duo and their co-stars. One social media user posted: "So well deserved love watching you all my favourite programme." Another added: "Congratulations guys so well deserved." A third agreed: "Thank you for entertaining us on a Friday night." Someone else said: "Congratulations to everyone at Gogglebox."
Gogglebox won Best Factual Entertainment at the NTAs earlier this month, beating The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, Sort Your Life Out, 24 Hours in Police Custody, and Secret Garden.
Recent emotional episode
The message comes after last week's episode, in which several cast members broke down in tears while watching a tribute show dedicated to Dolly Parton. The BBC's Last Night of the Proms saw performers Sheridan Smith and Beverley Knight pay tribute to the country music star, who died on August 25 aged 80 following a brief and undisclosed battle with cancer.
The second half of the BBC concert, aired on September 12, honoured the singer with Sheridan singing 9 To 5, Beverley performing I Will Always Love You, and country-pop duo Ward Thomas singing Jolene. Several Gogglebox stars, including Mary Killen, Lee Riley and Jenny Newby, were left sobbing as they watched from their sofas.
