The funeral of former Welsh politician Caroline Jones has taken place in Cowbridge. Elected to the then Assembly in 2016, she initially represented Ukip and later joined the Brexit Party during her term. She had been a member and campaigner for Reform UK but stood in the Senedd election on May 7, 2026, as an independent candidate for Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg.
She died after being placed into palliative care following the development of severe sepsis. In an online tribute, she was described as a "devoted wife, sister, aunt, friend, mentor, ambassador, and carer."
Tribute to a Life of Service
"Caroline was a woman of extraordinary kindness, compassion, courage, and generosity. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to caring for others, whether through her work, her family, or the many friendships she nurtured over the years. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel valued, welcomed, and loved," the tribute read.
"Throughout her life, she dedicated countless hours to supporting charities and organisations across the third sector, helping to raise tens of thousands of pounds for causes close to her heart. She was a passionate advocate for veterans, homeless people, women's refuges, children's organisations, and numerous charitable initiatives throughout Wales and beyond."
Breast Cancer Advocacy
"Having faced her own battle with breast cancer, Caroline became a source of hope and inspiration for countless women facing the same diagnosis. As a breast cancer buddy and mentor, she offered comfort, understanding, and reassurance to those struggling to come to terms with their illness."
"With remarkable courage and openness, she would often share her own experience, showing women that life could still be lived fully after a mastectomy and during treatment." She was elected to the then Assembly while continuing her own cancer treatment.
The tribute continued: "To many, Caroline was more than an advocate; she was a champion for women, encouraging them to find strength in themselves, to overcome obstacles, and to believe in what was possible. Her courage inspired others, and her legacy will continue to do so for generations to come."
Personal Passions
Caroline was also a singer, loved animals, and will, the tribute said, be remembered for "her warm smile, gentle nature, sense of humour, and selfless willingness to help others."
"While her passing leaves an immeasurable void in our lives, Caroline's love, kindness, courage, and example will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, from family members and lifelong friends to Amy and Donna, Clare and Lisa, and the many others who were blessed to experience her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love," the tribute concluded.
