Emmerdale actor Nick Miles has played Jimmy King on the ITV soap since 2004, becoming one of the show's beloved characters. His time in the Dales has included a marriage to Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) and being stabbed. Earlier this year, reports emerged that the character would be killed off.
This week, Jimmy died when his car crashed into the marquee at Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor's (Olivia Bromley) wedding.
Hollywood Connection
Before his long-running role in Emmerdale, Nick appeared in the 2002 Martin Scorsese epic Gangs of New York, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis. He played an Atlantic Guard Leader.
Speaking about working with DiCaprio, Nick told The Mirror: "He is quite shy but good humoured." He added: "I shared a brief exchange with him in the makeup room and I kind of wondered if I should be talking to him, but he was absolutely charming. He is shy, you can tell he is very self-contained most of the time."
Marriage to Stephanie Lumb
Nick is married to Stephanie Lumb. The pair met in 2005 when he bought a flat opposite hers in central Leeds. "I took her for a drink in Mojos bar. She had no idea I was on TV. It took her a bit of time to get used to it, and she gets jealous that my job sometimes gives me lie-ins. But she takes it all in her stride and enjoys it really," Nick previously told The Mirror.
Seven months into their romance, Nick proposed, but Stephanie turned him down. Nick said: "In a way it didn't matter because I knew I wanted to be with her anyway." He asked again and she said yes. The couple married in December 2006 in Penrith, Cumbria, with two friends as witnesses. "I just knew instinctively that she was right for me. She's gorgeous, level-headed and we're the perfect match," he added.
Actor Father
Nick grew up in Moseley, Birmingham, and inherited his acting skills from his late father John Bradney, a key figure on the city's amateur dramatic scene. The teacher was the actor-director of the MDCC Theatre Company, which stages open-air Shakespeare productions at venues including the Botanical Gardens.
Nick previously said: "He performed there every summer and loved the place. I donated two palm trees and his ashes are buried under one of them. I'm not sure about the legalities of the situation, but the gardener was kind enough to do it when planting the tree."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
