Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) makes one final attempt to break through Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) grief as the Tate family continues to fracture in Emmerdale. He delivers a clear ultimatum to his surrogate son: if Joe goes ahead with the adoption plan for his and Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) baby, Graham will walk out of his life for good.
The turmoil surrounding Joe has been relentless since the death of his love, Dawn. With an unquenchable thirst for vengeance, Joe has gone full ‘scorched Earth’ mode, targeting anyone he perceives to have played a role in the destruction of his life. He has already buried Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) alive while taunting her vulnerable husband Caleb (William Ash), and orchestrated a vicious beatdown of Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson), using former love-rival Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) as his personal weapon.
Kim’s heartbreak over the adoption
Most heartbreakingly for his nearest and dearest is his unwavering desire to have his son adopted. In today’s episode, Kim (Claire King) was broken to learn she couldn’t visit the baby, and when Joe told her that he’d organised a private adoption, Kim lamented his decision while clearly reflecting on her own experience. She declared to Graham that Joe would regret what he’s about to do forever. She was left reeling but tried again later to convince Joe to think again, to no avail. With nowhere left to turn, she suggested Graham might have more luck convincing him.
Elsewhere, Sadie King’s (Patsy Kensit) mission to get her perfectly-manicured-claws-in-disguise on Jimmy’s money sent her over to the depot, where she expertly manipulated Ruby into letting her in. When Caleb discovered what she was up to, his temper flared, but Ruby saw a kindred spirit in her fellow upper-class blonde.
Sadie’s confession and Ruby’s questions
Back at hers, the two had clearly knocked back a few too many vinos, but Ruby was dumbstruck when Sadie started to talk about her whirlwind romance with Federico…last year. Y’know, when she was supposed to be with Jimmy King (Nick Miles)? There was terrible heartbreak as Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) continued to crumble, though things did thaw between her and bestie, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy). Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) fought through his pain and sorrow to break up with Vinny, and tears were flowing as both boys’ hearts cracked on-screen.
Elsewhere, Gabby Thomas’ (Rosie Bentham) worsening health was treated by Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) with antibiotics, but her worsening orthorexia meant she was incredibly reluctant to take any medication.
What happens next in Emmerdale
In the Wednesday, September 30 episode, Sadie finds herself firmly on the backfoot when it comes to Ruby, who needles her with questions over her confession. Retreating to safety with her frienemy, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), he suggests that they end their plan before everything comes tumbling down around them, but Sadie’s eyes are blinded by pound signs, and she declares that they must keep searching for the cash.
Things reach a boiling point between Laurel and Gabby over the latter’s dedication to the healthy menu at work, and Laurel can take no more, walking out of the business entirely. As Gabby’s health continues to deteriorate and she begins coughing up blood, Robert lingers in the shadows, giddy that the business is in such bad shape – will the prospect of stealing the Hide from under Gabby convince him to continue the search for Jimmy’s missing loot?
Elsewhere, a desperate Vinny turns to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) for advice on surviving in prison, while a conversation between Kim and Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) at the graveyard leads Thea to thaw for the first time toward her birth mum.
