Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) faces a life-changing decision in Emmerdale after discovering that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) did not attack him. The truth comes out during today's episode (August 19) when Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) drunkenly admits to the assault, leaving Billy torn between telling Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) or keeping the secret to secure their escape.
Billy learns the truth
Billy and Dawn have been planning to flee the village ever since Billy claimed Joe put him in hospital. Believing her fiancé was a violent liar, Dawn agreed to run away with Billy. However, it was Kev who attacked Billy at the depot, where he was trying to stop his mate Steve (Jason Done) from robbing the place. Billy got in their way, and Kev was forced to take action.
Unaware of this, Billy and Dawn have been packing up their lives in secret, with help from Caleb and Ruby Miligan (William Ash and Beth Cordingly), who are only assisting because they want to see Joe's life fall apart.
A drunken confession
Their plan to leave for Spain yesterday was delayed when Joe organised a joint stag and hen do instead. The couple remained suspicious of Joe's kindness, and in today's episode, Joe invited everyone to The Hide for food. Kev heard about the event and decided to attend for free food.
After drinking, Kev approached Billy and commented on their shared prison history before blurting out that he was the one who attacked him. As Billy processed the news, he watched Dawn dancing with Joe.
Billy's dilemma
Billy now faces a crossroads. If he tells Dawn that Joe didn't attack him, there is no reason for her to leave. They will get married, and Billy will be left alone. If he stays silent, the plan to move to Spain can go ahead, but he will have to keep the truth about his attack a secret forever.
The episode leaves viewers wondering which path Billy will choose.
